What is Ayurveda?

One of the latest, and most interesting that we have come across is Ayuverda. But what is Ayuverda and what benefit does it have for those who choose it?

What is Ayuverda?

Rather than being something new, Ayuverda has been around for thousands of years. Developed in India, it is known to be one of the most powerful mind and body health systems. There are two main principles that form Ayuverda. This is that the mind and body are connected, which means that when it comes to healing the body, the mind is one of the most powerful tools that you can use.

Those who practice Ayurveda believe that each and every person who lives on this Earth is made from the five basic elements. Air, Water, Earth, Fire and Space. It is these elements coming together and combining which causes the body to form three life forces, which are called doshas. These doshas in turn control how your body works and are split down into Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

It is belief that everyone will inherit their own incredibly unique mix of the three doshas, however, there will always be one dosha that is more powerful than the others within their body, and as each one controls a different body function, your health, and the issues that can arise within it, will be linked to the balance of your doshas.

How can you practice Ayurveda?

The thing to remember with Ayuverda is that in order to practice it you need to consult with a practitioner who is experienced in this particular approach. They will work with you to take into account your very own physical and emotional wellbeing as well as your primary life force, and of course how your doshas are balanced.

Once they know this, they can advise a treatment plant that is designed entirely for you. The main goal of any treatment however, is to ensure that your body is cleansed of any undigested food, as it is thought that this can lead to illness.

This process, known as panchakarma, is designed to not only restore the balance and harmony, but also to help you to relieve and reduce any physical symptoms that you may be feeling.

Ayurveda can be practiced in a number of ways. You may be told that massage is the ideal approach for you, whilst others are told to use herbs, medical oils or even enemas and laxatives in order to clean out their digestive system and get themselves back in balance.
